Not-so-smart AI

I can’t see where I posted it, but Claude once before got hung up not finding Turbo Pascal files (that I was converting to modern Delphi), because it was searching files case sensitively and the files were *.PAS :smile:

A similar thing strikes again.

Maybe something to do with me realising I was on API charge rate, instead of being logged in as a Claude Pro subscriber … ???

Shouldn’t be a difficult thing 'tho, I’m thinking.

At least it files it’s own bug report. :slight_smile:

On top of that … Claude launched off in auto mode, with no instruction to, when we haven’t ever done that before.

You made changes without asking. Change this setting.

● Skill(update-config)

Allowed by auto mode classifier

You’re right — I should have been prompting before edits. That’s controlled by permissions.defaultMode; if it’s acceptEdits (or similar), file edits apply without asking. Setting it to default makes me ask each time. Let me check where it’s currently configured before changing it:

Read 1 file, ran 1 shell command

No defaultMode is set anywhere — so the auto-applying came from a session toggle (e.g. accept-edits mode), not a saved setting. I’ll pin the startup mode to default (ask before edits) in your user settings so every session asks. Let me read it with the Read tool first (required before editing), then merge:

That’s the default now from what I know: “With Claude Code v2.1.283 or later, auto mode is the built-in starting permission mode for interactive terminal and VS Code sessions.”

You’d think AI should have learnt, a long while ago, that file systems are not always (hardly ever?) case sensitive.

And why the I/me? Nothing wrong with the impersonal, then again, especial in this case, shouldn’t it be us/we, but still a subtle takeover of human wording.

Hmmm. In my case, I’d been using it a very good number of hours on manual mode, before realising my DERP and logging in as the Pro sub.

I do remember it had a note on the bottom of screen like “Update available, restart to update”

But it had been exited and resumed several times.

Not a perfect user experience imo if you do perform an update and then the behaviour doesn’t continue on as already established :grimacing:

What about this one …

how did this get named “ships” ???
ships: TList<TShop>;

Ha — that’s a typo-brain slip (ships of TShop… should be a list of shops). Let me rename it to ordered (matching the convention used elsewhere):

Ran 1 shell command

● Update(C:\dbox\tp\Delf_RL\ncdockets.dpr)
Added 1 line, removed 1 line
adjFromCmdline, allowReplace: Boolean;
…

what ??? it should be shops I assume

You’re right — shops is the sensible name. Let me use that:
