I’ve just started watching the replay of the USA webinar and after the first few minutes I’ve seen a couple of nice new language features I’ll be keen to start using straight away.
The ternary operator we already knew about and I’ll probably use it eventually but right away I know I’ll be using… (taken straight from the presentation slides)
if Obj is not TFoo then ...
if x not in [Apple, Orange] then ...
Not a game changer but a nice incremental improvement for the language that is long overdue.
More interesting is an intrinsic NameOf() function which is described as “Get a string representation of identifiers in code”. I’m eager to start exploring the possibilities that will open up, particularly in the framework development space.
There are 3 additional constraints for generic types
- interface
- unmanaged
- nonnull
I haven’t watched long enough to know what they do yet but any extension of generics capabilities is greatly welcome.
There’s another 3 or 4 language changes that I’m not as interested in but maybe they’ll be just the feature you’ve been waiting for. The Australian friendly webinar is in just a few hours if you haven’t already registered for it.
